So, I've heard a lot about dorian fruit, but I've never tried it before. The local asian market has them whole, but they are frozen. If I bought it, how should I defrost it? Should I just leave it out for a day? When it does thaw, how are you supposed to eat the thing?

Fridge. Beware of the smell when you cut it open. Evacuate all little kids, far far away from the kitchen. Give it a day to thaw.

If someone tries to rob you, grab it and whack em with it.

it's got a hard, prickly shell that is inedible.

Inside, it's kinda like a walnut in that there are hard things that you aren't supposed to eat.

The fruit is the round nuggets inside between the stuff you aren't supposed to eat.

Durian has a funny odor that many people don't like, and the fruit is pretty unique in flavor.

give it a shot. I've never bought a frozen one before, let us know how you dislike it. (i'm saying dislike because the odor and taste will be unlike anything you've had before, and 9 times out of 10, that means you wont' like it)

the smell is bad, but it tastes ok and is very nutritious

i have the fruit in my native country and people hang around the tree to wait for it to fall and take them home.

It is not advisable to wait under a durian tree thou

you open it by using a kitche knife and split it.be sure to wear thick gloves thou

Yes. It's DELICIOUS! I wish I could find some Durian ice cream. They used to have some when I was a kid.

They do have some. They have Durian candy too. Check at the Chinese bakeries.

durian... you definately are goign to dislike the smell.. id ont' knwo anyone who smells it and says "yum!" i know a bunch of peopel that will eat it though.. my mom likes it, but won't buy it cause it smells like a$$... i've tried it and i don't like it... i think to crack it open, you have to take a knife and break through the shell.. there's supposed to be like a place where you could do this.. some sorta soft part in the shell.. i'm not really sure.. ask the guy at the market.. to defrost i think you can just leave it in the fridge overnight.. beware, it takes a while to get rid of that smell

yes, it will kill you instantly if a full grown durian falls on your head haha..

but gladly most people have enough common sense that waiting or sleeping under a tree with spiky balls attached to a branch a few mm thick is not a good idea

the story is different with coconut thou..mhhh..lets have a nap = you get to meet NEWTON SOON and he'll teach u physics!

In Singapore, Durian products (candy, etc) are banned in many subways and movie theaters due to the smell. I used to keep a tin of the candy for practical jokes on my guests. :D

Durian smells so bad, but my parents insist it takes very good. Since smell is associated with taste, I don't see how anything that smells that bad can taste good.

Sure, as long as you keep one in the fridge you'll never grow old.
