should I buy a broken PS2 and the parts to fix it?

If you know how to fix it then sure why not. I had one of the old PS1s that I screwed up trying to solder a mod chip onto the motherboard. I bought a broken one off ebay with a bad cd rom and took the working cd rom from mine to fix it. Got it real cheap. This was before the PS2 had even come out.
