I am new to the forums and I have a question

I currently have a Athlon 2500 and a Ati 9500 Pro Video card.

My friend told me I should get a 6600 gt for now.

He said in the fall of 05 when there will be alot of changes to some of the computer components

I want to play Doom 3

Should I get the 6600 Now and wait till the fall to build another computer

Doom3 should play decently on that system. Have you tried it?

Oh, and welcome to AT.

It played perfectly fine for me on my 2500+ and 9800pro. 9500pro isn't too far behind a 9800pro.

I'm concerned about you getting a new AGP card right now as in Fall with a new system you'd probably be best served getting a PCI-e based system. I don't think it would be a good idea to get a moderate upgrade for $200 if you're only going to use it for 6 months.

My friend said that

Ati is coming out with a new video chipset soon so I should wait before spending the big bucks

Cpu's will have Dual Processors

Perhaps different memory

If I wait till fall I will try to build a sli rig with at least 1 gig of ram

I still may do the small upgrade.

I tend to keep 2 computers one is the main one is a backup

SLI is worthless unless you like to light cigars with $50 bills

Dual-core doesn't help gaming and won't for at least a year, maybe two.

9500 Pro will play Doom, but probably at 640x480 will lower image quality. Still, that's as good as an Xbox.
