Should I buy a 2.4ghz Celeron HP laptop?

I got a 4610us HP that looks to be the same except has a Barton 2500 on it for $699 after rebate at Circuit City. Is this used ? if so, I would try to get it cheaper, if new that sounds fine, and you probably won;t notice the difference since no games will be played.

I bought a Dell 1100 (Celeron 2G) in Aug `03 for $674 AR . . . very pleased. Since HP & Dell own half the market between them, you should do well.

I just bumped mine from 256M to 1G RAM, some tasks are 20X faster, others no change.

One problem with with the HP. Its USB 1.1, my Dell is USB 2.0, huge difference. Having USB 2.0 caused me to sell my desktop and install my HD's and DVD burner in external enclosures . . . no loss of speed.

Celerons on laptops are fine as they have 256K cache. The desktop versions have 128K.

True, and they also support advanced power management features. One would be hard pressed to see a difference between a Mobile Celeron and a Northwood P4, except of course that the P4 would gobble up so much more battery

so there isn't much difference in terms of a mobile celeron and a p4? or is that the right judgement to say?

No. Current P4s have 512K cache, faster FSB and Hyperthreading. Mobile Celerons have 256K cache and a slower FSB and don't have Hyperthreading.

The P4 rules all celerys mobile or not.

In response to the original post, the laptop seems fine for your uses but if there is any other choice than a celeron then look into it as theyre probably the worst processor out right now. (dosent make emm bad just means theyre behind the rest of the pack)

How much are the mobile AMD 2500's going to be? I haven't heard anything about AMD laptop solutions. Mostly because...well... there hasn't been any until now lol.

If you don't plan on playing games on a lap top, which nobody really does anyway, a 2.4 ghz celeron with 256k cache is a really good set up for a lap top.

That laptop seems fine. Don't worry about the Celeron CPU. in my experience you don't notice the difference between a mobile P4 and an mobile Celeron.

I have a toshiba 1410 with a C1.8GHz and my mate has the same laptop except with a P4M 1.8GGHz. We have same RAM, Video (NVidia Geforece 4Go) and in most application including Games our systems perform relatively equal. He on average gets 5fps quicker - Who can tell the difference

is there any sodimm ddr ram deals right now, im about to buy this laptop, just waiting for my friend to get some fre time.

Thanks
