Or should I get a gauranteed AXIA? I don't know if I want to take the chance w/ newegg, but it's such a good deal.

Wow, that is a pretty good deal...

I would probably take the chance with Newegg. They have a good volume of sales going through there, with that you are pretty much guaranteed to get a "fresh" chip, and all of the newer steppings overclock well anyways.

I'm wondering this same thing. I want to do 1.4 at least (1.5 couldn't hurt either). I don't know whether or not to grab a 1.2 or get a 1ghz guaranteed AXIA. More thoughts?

On the line below the CPU stepping, if the first character is a number, you have a smaller chance of a big overclock. If its a letter, you have a much better chance, though with OCing, nothing is totally certain ;) BTW, I heard that one of the letters is better than all the others, but I'm not sure which one it is.... I think it 'K'... I'm fairly sure it isnt 'Y'

Wow. Compuwiz actually has very good prices on the guaranteed AXIA's. Even the 1.2 guaranteed to 1.4 is priced great (and if I'm not mistaken shipping is free on this item. at least it showed as $0.00 when I checked it). Soon as this week's paycheck gets deposited one of those 1.2's@1.4 is mine.

Got mine from Compuwiz, I really like the 90 day warrenty and guarentee clock.
It's worth a few extra bucks to get it guarenteed.

Where's the fun if it's guarenteed?

konichiwa, don't buy into the Y crap. 9's, Y's, 4's have all been good overclockers, and I fail to see that pattern and I test alot of cpus.

I had heard the letter thing at many sites, but you have probably OCed many, many T-birds, so I'll take that stuff with a large grain of salt. BTW, do you have any of the new 5 character stepping code T-Birds yet?

Sounds good, and please DO post what the average OC from the speed bins you get them in at is.

Mookow: There's no fun, but all of us aren't into overclocking for the fun of it. I've overclocked my last 3 cpu's (K6-2 450, Celeron 366, and Celeron 566) and all of them were guarantteed. The reason: cheaper performance (my computer though fun, is there to do work).

I just ordered a 1Ghz Athlon 266FSB from Newegg last week for $127. I got an Axia week 14. I haven't tested it out yet though so I don't know how well it will OC.

Just to add some info, last week i recieved my OEM 1.2G Athlon from Newegg, AXIA, factory unlocked... Not too shabby...

Still modding my case, hope to be up and running by this weekend!

"Hmm...what are these 5 character stepping T-Birds I'm hearing of? "

Details on the new steppings can be found here and here.. Apparently, all the new 1.33's and 1.4ghz's are a new stepping..AYHJA. This new stepping apparently is hitting 1.7ghz with some good cooling. According to AthlonOC.com, they say the average overclock is 1660! Also, overclockers.com is speculating that they run cooler and may actually use the new "Power Now" technology to be introduced with the Palamino..though this is pure speculation at this point.
