I have been trying to decide whether I want to upgrade my gpu...

X800xl ..overclocked a bit

I can buy a "new" X1950xtx for $315 shipped(new via RMA return..tested to work)

I play a few games CoH, Prey, HL2 etc

I currently run the system in my sig..but if the next few weeks will switch to e6600 sitting on my desk(it was tested to run at 3.6 but I expect prime95 stablity will be 3.4ghz)

I love aATI IQ but I am no fanboy(I buy what is a good price and performs well..I have 6800 in another system that was unlocked) and I will never spend $400 for a VC..in fact to me $300 seems crazy..I prefer $250

any thoughts?

I agree 100% on waiting game

I never getting the highest end gpu...too rich for my needs or principles

I do like the idea of a DX10 gpu...but at present day prices of $400-600, nvidia is crazy if you ask me

Thanks

Buy the X1950XTX now...then buy a DX10 card a couple of months AFTER R600 comes out and you should be able to find cheaper DX10 cards. If you don't wanna upgrade that often then yeah wait.

I'm going to be buying an X1950XTX when I build a new PC this Christmas, so I say go for it :) Then again, I'm currently using an AGP X800XT so I'm feeling the need for an upgrade. I agree the nVidia 8800 cards are way too expensive right now, just not worth it IMO.

Wait for the ATI DX10 card, as their prices on the DX9 products will plummet. Then you can either get a 1950 for cheap, or go into DX10 territory.

shall i wait?

depends on if you can stand your current games at their current level of detail ;)

the xtx will drop in price ... guaranteed

how long are you willing to wait?

... IF you need it and have the money, it is always a good deal, right now

if your uptight about the product being new, then get the new 256, still really cheap, and its quite a jump, or you can shop around on ebay, i got a 1900 crossfire edition for just over 300 i think it was.

The first link is a X1900GT and you can get an X1950XT for the price of the second link.

Thanks...I decided to consider a 1950xt ...I am not a heavy gamer and while I would love to have a top of the line VC...I cant see "wasting" money

I can afford to buy a 8800gtx but I refuse to pay $600-650

I prefer to stay in the $250 range.....even the extra $65 doe not seem worth the price...(of course this is coming from someone who spent $400 on WC..but I wanted to see if I could do without frying my components...I amazed my wife LOL)

Is a x1950XT 256mg better than say a used x1900xt with 512mg....I am guessing they are very close in performnce correct?

I have looked at benches but jeez they all start to run together....

I don't think there's such a thing as an X1950XT 256mb....I think it's a X1950pro 256mb.If you really don't wanna spend much money I say go for the X1950pro...depending on what resolution u game at, it might be a really good buy.

The 1950xt 256 meg is faster than the 1900xt with 512 ram

Is this on the 80nm process like the X1950XTX and the X1950pro? It doesn't have GDDR4 like the X1950XTX either. I've definitely never seen a review of the X1950XT card.

the x1950 pro is a sweet deal at $200.
The x1950 xt outperforms the x1900 xt cause of the higher memory clocks.
If u don't wanna spend too much money but still wanna game the x1950 pro will serve ur needs. But if u wanna play at high resolutions such as 1600x1200 then get a x1950 xt.

Upgraded from an X1900XT to an 8800GTX. The X19 ran @ max OD speeds (692/798) and tho Oblvion looked pretty, 10FPS in a firefight's kinda not fun. So IMO, it's worth it to bring those minimum frames up to 25 AND have increased framerate. :D

You only have to make the nasty purchase once, after that it's just a $3-400 investment for the next step provided you use the for sale forums on the interwebs.

Good luck!
