Should I buy a 19" CRT, or 5.1 speakers?

I'm keen on both items, but part of me thinks spending hundreds on a good quality 19" CRT is a waste, especially with LCDs getting better and cheaper. I'm a big FPS gamer, and more games are utilizing 5.1, including the upcoming Doom3.

My brother has the Logitech Z680 and they're so money. I could pick 'em up for about $375 CAD.

What should I blow my money on?

4-year-old 17" Dell E770. Served me well, still looks great.

Tough choice. If you have at least a 17" monitor now, I might go for the 5.1 speakers

Speakers. CRTs are obsolete. No point in buying one. Can't wait for my CRT at work to fry so they'll give me a new LCD. :D I am too honest to help it along :( :D

Save some money on clothes and buy some real speakers and a receiver ;)

I've had to sacrifice a few outfits in the last few years...but I'm more than happy with my system :D Now I'm back to buying clothes I really don't need...

I find any computer speakers with more than three pieces to be a waste of space and money. But I've also got a nice HT setup that I use for my movie viewing so that might account for some of that cynicism.

My 2.1 speakers work fine. I awnt something 5.1, I'll stream to my xbox to go to my home theatre system. All you really need is left and right and if you're big on fps, you should be using headphones when it really matters anyway.

I'd get the 19" crt or a 21" one. LCD's are nice, but well, I don't need the space. This way you got dual screens for doom 3 and another window for aim and stuff.

Just get both. A decent 19" for ~250USD and some Logitech 640s for ~50USD. I forget what the USD/CAD rate is, but you still be able to stay under budget.
