Well, the city bus took my driver side mirror off in a hit and run. I called the police and filed a report. They said they would get back to me next week. I am pretty certian that the mbta will fork over the money to fix my car, but i do not know how long it will take. My friends were telling me that it is not woth the hassle going through my insurance company since the mbta will likely pay. SOme of my other friends say i should just file a claim with insurance so 1. I get the money faster, and 2. precaution in case the mbta says it was not there fault. You think I should file a claim?

Also, is driving around w/o a driver side mirror illegal?

I don't really know about the first part, but i'm fairly certain it's illegal to drive without a driver side mirror..

In MI, driving without a driver side mirror is illegal, I believe.

I would wait for the police to get back to you...around here, the cops take hit & run pretty seriously; not sure why it'd take so long for you.

Do you have a plate and/or bus # for the bus that hit you? If so, call the MBTA and see what you can get out of them.

Call your insurance. It wasn't your fault. They'll go after on your behalf.

MBTA told me to screw off:|. I went to my insurance company and they told me the case was closed because the bus number was not enough information. Appearently, I need the license plate also. I have to pay for a hit and run! Why should I pay if i was not even in my f'n vehicle at the time? It was not parked illegally and it was not my fault, so why should I have to fork over money to fix it?

Just out of curiosity, which insurance company? I've never been able to get an insurance company to give me anything out of a hit-and-run. Progressive went so far as to tell me they cancelled my policy a week before it happened to avoid payment (they conveniently sent an e-mail to me the day after the accident to inform me of this retroactive cancellation). Now, my car is a rolling piece of rubble. Moral of the story: don't live or drive in Dayton, OH.

can you find the bus with the same number and get the licens plate? but yeah, i would think bus numbers would be just as idenifying as a license plate. unless it was a route number as there are many busses on a route.

It was Liberty Mutual. I don't get how they come to the result that I am fault just because i got the bus number and not the plate number. No, it was not the route number.

Hey... at least you know who hit and ran. I had the passenger side door caved in by some vehicle. No idea who, when or even where. It took me about two days to notice, nothing showed internallly and only the door was damaged.

Oh BTW four years ago I was sideswiped by a city bus in Halifax. I got only his bus number and instead of bothering with insurance, since all it did was scrape my side view mirror, I called them and also wrote a letter to them, mentioning the bus number on there. They found out what happened and gave me $100, which is what the appraiser said it was going to cost to fix the scrape (very minor, like I said).

What's the point of abus number if you can't id the bus? Call the bus company: they know exactly what bus that is.

Also a bus driver won't run from this if it's minor. He probably just didn't know that he'd hit you.

I am not mad at the driver since I am sure he did not know he took off my mirror. I am mad about my insurance company telling me i failed to give enough information and I am mad about the MBTA telling me to screw off.
