New rig coming soon...

should I bother running an anti-virus program? I've never really bothered with them.. on the rare occasions I'd somehow get a virus I'd just hack and slash it out of my system with the help of a little fix readme and regedit.exe

So really... how effective/worthwhile are the anti-virus/spyware/etc apps? I hate to waste memory on unneeded tasks.

Thanks.

Do you like wasting time on uneeded tasks? Why not use the antivirus software to spare you the trouble?

just use the freeware antivir, it only uses 13mb of memory and provides real time protection with a good dection rate.

see my Antivirus Roundup

Spyware blaster and spybot's immunize and a good host file do not take up any system resources in terms of memory or cpu time, only HD space
