Should I bother trying a new HSF??

Recently my 9800 pro's fan stopped working. I could literally smell what I imagine was the thermal paste burning as my computer crashed (guessed I should have went easy on the overclocking). I'm building a new pc now, but I would like to salvage the 9800 pro if possible, so my question is, should I even try swapping in a new fan or is my my card toast? I can boot my computer with the card in but I get a corrupted image. I've never let the card run for more than a few seconds since the fan died, but I'm hoping a new hsf and driver install might save the card.

Is this wishful thinking? Should I spend 20 bucks on a hsf and give it a shot, or is the card trash?

I guess it depends on whether you think you burnt it up or not. The 9800 Pro is still a somewhat decent card so if you can simply repair it cheap it might be worth the trouble. I definitely wouldn't use it at all until you get a working fan on it... those cards get real hot real quick. ;)
