I think it may do more harm than help me

I heard pre-interview information sessions/social events do nothing to get you hired but they can make you NOT get hired

The information session is this Monday and my interview is lined up for Tuesday

I don't have much experience attending these things and trying to small talk with the recruiters so I don't want to leave a negative impression

however, if I attend, they will see that I'm really interested

what to do?

any advice on how to act/what to say?

yeah, I really don't want to go but I don't want to put myself at a disadvantage by not showing face

I did tell the recruiter a few weeks ago that I will be attending the info session... but I already have a 1st round interview with them so I don't know what to do

did you get an offer after your 2nd rounds?

Go to the session, especially if you already told them you'd be there.

Dude, you should definitely go. Recruiters are usually people who were in your position a few years ago... rarely do they send HR reps. They are not only looking at hiring the "smartest/best" candidate, they want someone who they can tolerate spending 40+ hours a week with (and this goes for you too). I would go and try to socialize with them a bit.... at least showing up means that they see you are dedicated to the position and want to learn more about the job. My .02$

Go and talk to people.

Its not what you know that gets you hired, its who you know that gets you hired.

Who knows, maybe you will meet your interviewers there? It has happened to me before and it was good that I already knew them from before. The interview becomes much better if you already know the person.
