should I bother getting my ipaq fixed?

First day I got my ipaq, the onboard speaker died and had dust collecting under the screen. All extremely common ipaq problems. So I send it in, and when I get it back, I notice I have a deep scratch on the screen now and a dead pixel.

Compaq already gave me an RMA number, but my question is, will they f*ck something else up if I send it in again? I notice with high tech things, when you send something in for repair, they tend to butch something else. If anyone here works at an electronics service center, I'm listening.

they probably sent you a refurb, and will fix your old one, and send it to the next guy who RMA's an ipaq

Although possible, I don't think that's the case because they really sat on my ipaq for almost two weeks and the unit I got back had the same serial number.

Call them up right away and get it fixed. That way they can't blame you for putting the scratch in it.

Yeah I already did, they gave me another RMA case and they sent me another return box. I just have to call Airborne Express to tell them to pick it up. My main worry is whether they'll butcher something else this time.

Don't be so lazy..

Call them up, tell them the story, and demand a NEW unit. If they don't QUICKLY offer you one, start moving UP the management food chain..

Or, if you are TRULY lazy, sell it to me cheap. ;)

Although I agree with your sentiment, I've tried that before on an older unit I had where I spent over a month arguing with them. I had an older b&w unit that I had to send in three times, and compaq lost the unit for a month. I tried every avenue, including customer relations. They wouldn't give me a new unit at all.

I was looking around the more popular PDA forums and this is common, I've read stories of units being shipped in over half a dozen times (sometimes their "repairs" break other things) and users are always being denied on requests for new units.

At any rate, I'm not sure a new unit would help at all. All the problems I've had are extremely common among ipaq users. Like I said, mine wasn't even a day old when it broke. If I got a new one, it'd have the same QC issues, which would toss me back into this cycle. Only the very newest models have these issues resolved, but if they won't even give me a new unit exchange, they sure as hell aren't gonna give me a free upgrade.

If anyone reading this is in the market for a new pda, all things being equal, don't buy a compaq pda. They will shaft you. And they have no problems with repeating shafting people. Between the two ipaqs that I've owned, I've been shafted almost half a dozen times.

The irony of this situation is that these devices are supposed to clean up your life a bit and make you more organized, but mine just gives me another headache to deal with.
