Should I be worried?

Ok, so I on my first built system right now (specs in sig) and its been running fine since I made it (around May).

I even toyed with overclocking, got it up to 3.2 from 2.8 until one day out of nowhere it decided that that was too high, wouldn't boot, even told me the overclocking was unstable so I set it back to 2.8 and I'm never touching it again. That was maybe a month ago, don't know if its related.

Anyways, yesterday I was having trouble getting it to recognize a memory card in my card reader, I reboot and it hangs before getting to Windows. Restarting doesn't work, I have to turn it off then on again.

This morning, after accidently leaving it on over night (I usually don't) I turn on the monitor to check my email, and my starfield screen saver is frozen, flickering. Nothing responds, and I have to turn it off and on again just like above.

These are the only incidents that anything has happened, and as this is my first build I want to nip anything in the bud before something really bad happens... so is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks!

What is your PSU?

Apparently it's a "Powmax"
bought it off a friend for like 10 bucks.

I saw a "$10 power supply from a friend" turn 1,800 worth of hardware into targets for my AK in a millisecond. The PSU snorted a blue fireball out of the case and that was it.

You should really reconsider unless you know the specs on that PSU are ok. Drop at least 60-100 on a PSU

i had a powmax. It sucked and died on me thankfully not taking anything with it. a 9800pro and doom3 killed it lol. Cheap junk. Switch it out now. Do not wait.

wanted to add the thing lasted about a year. I was desparate when I bought it went frtom a sparkle 300watt to that junk for the p4 12volt thing. Should of just got a adapter for the sparkle. I knew better and still let it bite me in the ass.

I had a nice 400w powmax, it only took out my $180 motherboard when it blew. Did you do something to make your friend mad? Cause I wouldn't give a powmax psu to my worst enemy, although I did put one in my ex wife's computer before I shipped it to her.

Yeah, that sounds like the PSU.

I only use Antecs. TruePower usually around 480W. I am looking at the NeoPowers, but I don't think I need the ability to adjust voltage.
