Should I be sucking or blowing?

Hey guys.

I just recieved my sx1030B from onvia, and WOW is this a nicely put together case.

MY QUESTION: It came with 2 antec 80mm case fans in the back and the PS fan. Would I get better cooling if I left it as it is or took the bottom one out and put it in the bottom slot at the front of the case. This makes more sense to me cuz 2 fans at the back seems like overkill with no intake at all.

Whatdayaguys say?

thanks for all input

blowing out the back.... And moving one to the front isn't a bad idea. The direction really isn't important, so as long as all your fans are going the sam direction, and since your PS fan is already sucking air form the case and blowing out the back, you should make the rest of your fans have a similar direction of airflow.... (a friend of mine built a custom case and had the power supply seperate from his rig, just a cable running to the box, and the fans blow from back to front, with the front fan blowing so he can dry off his sweaty as$ hands...)

just picture the air-flow... amooth is good, the general norm is to suck in front and exhaust in back...

Love your quote from Me, Myself and Irene. How about "Ummmh, vagiclean, what's the matter, honey? A little extra cheese on the taco?"

hehe, yeah that was a good one.

I know which direction is best to suck air and all, but I was just wondering, until I get a couple more fans is it best to leave it the way it was (both fans in back) or seperate them. I think I am gonna leave one up in front like I have it now, but not all of my components are here yet so I wont have a chance to actually compare temps till after the weekend.

thanks for all the input guys

Depends on the case, before some A-brand manuf. use the suck in, blow out through the holes near components way. Try it out is the bast way to learn.

Air flow of hot air must always go out on the upper side of the case if you use back out, front (low) in methode. The hot air will raise and sucked out and cool air (near ground) will flow in. (This one I am currently using in a Aopen HQ-8 case).

yeah, thats how I have it set up and thats how I was planning on using it. I am also buying a couple of kind of junky low noise low output fans so I can put em all in there and see how it works.

thanks a lot guys

I'd leave 'em in the back, to keep the noise source further away, or both in the front. Keeping them together avoids the possibility of short-circuit airflow where some of the air expelled out the back is sucked back in thru the open fan grille and a similar possibility for the front fan.

The 1030 has a nice open front bezel, but I've seen a similar problem with cases that have restrictive bezels where the front fan just pushes warm air around in a circle behind the bezel. Tricky.

I fond the best cooling work swith no fans in the front or back at all....

I just made the holes for three 80mm fans on the left panel (the one opposite the mobo) to blow into the case. Then I made a blowhole on the top with a 120mm fan.

This way ther air blosw across and up the length of the mobo, and out the top where heat rises to anyway. Very good cooling, and extremely efficient.

Cichli, im not gonna go that far.....just yet.

If I did mod my case, i would use just one 120mm blowhole and probably all else sucking in

however, since the top of my case is not easily removable I dont know how I am going to do that

Get two more fans. Two in back blowing air out of the case, two in front sucking air into the case. thats should be sufficient. If you want better air flow, round your cables or buy rounded cables. You can also buy that enermax p/s that has the two fan setup. That'll suck more air out of the case.

The difference is minimal. You are still moving the same amount of air and if you think of where the air is coming from when you have the two exhausting in back it is the front. Antec is a sharp company and there is a reason they put the two in back to begin with. Probably because that is where your largest heat generators are. In engineering you almost almost alway find that pulling air out of a box is better then trying to push air in. Just look at any car radiator fan although this is an imperfect analogy because when in motion there is pushing of air also.
