Should I be looking for a new job?

My small company, run by father and son is a bit neurotic and hard to deal with at times... They're not bad they do take care of us pretty damn well, and the expectations are low, so there's not a ton of pressure... then again there's not much reward, either personal or monetary.

I've got 4+ years Windows server administration experience, I'm a configurer and feel comfortable with 2003 and NT. Tell me what you want done and I have always been able to figure out a way to do it.
I was promoted to this gig after 4+ years of tech support moved from tier 1-3, etc.

I currently make 63k and would like another 10k
I don't have any certs, just the experience.

I'm working on my BA in Psych (in 4-5 years I want to quit work, go to grad school, and become a school psychologist) and will be done mid 2009

I expect I'll get a 4% raise or so... that's what it's been the last few years...

Should I just stick it out?

I'm conflicted, and not in love with what I do... meh

Thoughts?

Doesn't hurt to go look.

Apply and look. Find out what else is out there. You have your job, so if you don't find anything no big deal. If you find a better one though, you can quit there and switch. No harm in looking.

If you are working on a degree right now, that flexibility and low stress is probably really helpful when it comes to classes and homework. A higher paying job at a different company may not come anywhere close to providing you the freedom you currently have.

Not to sound like a total slacker, but you have a decent paying gig with what sounds like a pretty lax work environment. I'd probably milk that for what it's worth until I was ready to hop ship to a completely different career.

It doesn't sound like too bad of a gig, but then I read in your profile that you live in Lombard, which means you are like 1 or 2 miles from Fry's. Living that close to Fry's must be really really expensive!

QFT. Don't go higher pressure until your degree is done. Consulting might be a good gig for you, but the big 5 firms are definitely higher pressure than what you're used to. Even if they'll hire without a degree, it'll be tough to schedule around it.

I know, I go to school at night and work for a larger firm. It's not the greatest idea, but I only have one year left.
