Hello,
I swapped the chassis cooling fan in my Dell Dimension PIII450 machine (a 92cm 34CFM 27dB(A) NMB fan, model 3610KL-04W-B20 housed in a plastic CPU shroud) for a Papst 3412NGL(92cm 35.9CFM 23dB(A)) in the hope of getting a near-silent case. No such luck. I hear a rather loud humming sound from the 3412NGL on top of the sound of the air moving out. Is this normal? I also replaced my PSU fan with a second Papst, an 80mm 8412NGML that produces 19dB(A) at 26.5CFM and is obviously much more quiet than the 3412NGL, but I can hear a low vibrating sound at regular one second intervals. Any thoughts?
I'm a bit disappointed with the noise after waiting such a long time for my order to come through and then paying the hefty C$80 bill.
