IWIll KK266+ and 1.4 Athlon. SB live, GTS video card, dsl modem. The FSB jumper is in the correct place (133 position).

1st thing I did was change FSB to 140, and it seemed to run fine. No clock multiplier adjustment yet, no voltage change yet. Later, on a restart, the system said it found a registry problem and suggested going back to least know safe registry. Like a moron, I clicked OK. On the reboot, all of my device drivers are gone? When I click on a game icon, It says I no longer have DirectX 8, only 6.1.

Should I continue with reinstalling device drivers and other miscellaeous crap and continue uptweaking the overclock, or should I begin the total reinstall of the OS and all software, and then begin OC'ing again.

Wow...140fsb and getting reg errors...

My PIII 700, well it was acutually the slotket i was using didnt like any FSB between 125-140. So I was forced to run it at 144 :)

When running in that range I got reg errors all the time. WOuldnt boot at all!

I dont think I would reinstall unless its something serious. You should be ok just installing things back over what was there. Unless you dont have much on there, then reinstall and start fresh. I love the feel of a fresh install. Kinda like getting into a new car with that new car smell.....mmmmmmmmmmm

GD IT!

Reinstalled the drivers and configured the system the way I like it, and it happened again! Same error message on a restart, 98SE said again that it would restore last know good registry. And just like that, 3 hours of work power flushed! I had defragged it, run REG Cleaner over it a few times, no way there was a registry problem.

Being a mind of a technical nature, I am strongly considering....physically assaulting the system.

Am I missing anything folks? Mystery jumper on the mobo that allows even a modest overclock? Am I a Bios idiot? All I did in Bios was change the 133 to 140....

The system and CPU temps are fine.

Now, should I attempt the full reinstall, or try for the partial along with another trick that you can tell me....?

isn't there a smaller interval you can go up at? put it back down to 133......reinstall everything....and SLOWLY go up...a 7 mhz FSB jump seems sigjnificant to me.....try the multiplyer too

At 140 FSB & u didn't change anything in the bios. Well, U need to. Up the vcore to 1.85v & c. If u r using DDR RAM, up the voltage to 2.9v as well.

Get your C drive setup the way you want it without overclocking then Ghost it. Then when you are overclocking, if you have a problem you can restore it quickly and easily.

mmmm.......Ghost uh?

You sure me kicking it's a$$ wouldn't help a little?...Sweet Mary, I know I would enjoy it. All that shattering PCB, billions of capacitors and micro-circuits leaving a smoking dent in the opposite wall.....TEMPTING, TEMPTING!

But seriously,

Yeah, I did boost the voltage up to 1.85, and did the full reinstall. The temp went up about 4C and seemed to peek at 59C, so she's warm, REAL WARM. But I'm not getting the registry error, and everything has gone smoothly so far. Yeah, I know I'm pushing my luck at those temps, but ...what the hell. Sure wish that Thermaltake Super Copper mini had a liitle more kick to it......

I'll have to go over to the software forum and pester those guys to explain this "Ghosting" thing. Gracias for the help.
