Should I ask for a raise?

I'm currently working as an Assistant Manager at Blockbuster. I'm only pulling in $22k before taxes, which is not enough to live on. I've been at the company for four years, and got a score of 99/100 on my last performance review from last December (in which I got a whopping 15 cent raise). They're stingy with money though, so I'm wondering if I should even bother asking for a raise. What do you guys think?

blockbuster is going down the sh1tter at the moment, plus my ex-gf used to work there and she said that its the worst company ever. if you have retail management experience you should see if there are any other jobs around.

considering blockbuster's quarterly losses, you should be glad you're not getting laid off

We're a franchise, so we're not part of the corporation. Although our profits have gone down considerably as well.

i'd start looking for a new job. BB is just not a good company for the future. oversaturated market plus online video rental growth plus crappy movies recently (and i don't see any good ideas in the pipeline)

Your lucky you work there and get free rentals. A .15 per hour raise would barely cover one new rental at BB.

I would have told them to shove up thier overnight drop box.

.15$ is a slap in the face raise. With your experience, you may be able to score a better job at a different retail business.

Obviously they know they need you. Get another job then ask for the raise. If they don't give it to you go somewhere that will!

I work in education and got a 4% raise this year. I am not rich but I make about 31K and looks like nothing but raises for about 10 years. After we install this new database system and get it running, I am just about gauranteed a raise every year and some good job security.

I have a Bachelor's Degree as well, will that give me some leverage in negotiating for a raise?

Good god man, college degree, 4 yrs there and you barely clear $22K.
And I thought McDonalds is a dead end job.
Clearly you need to find another job.

Assistant manager here at McDonalds get $26K + bonus a year which is somewhere between $28K-$30K.
If you've been here for 4 yrs, you certainly would be higher up(even running your own store by now) if you had the knowledge.

Like I said, I thought McDonalds is dead end but they make BB look like sh!t.

With a degree and four years of management experience on your resume, you should be able to find a job that doesn't involve the buggering that you're taking now. Polish the reume.

Start looking for something else, Use that against them also. Lie about some other company offer you something better, but would stay with BB if they are willing to match it.
