This potential buyer contacted me asking if he/she can use USPS money order since they arent with paypal. This person has rating history going back to Jan 04 and 204 rating - 100% positive. Seems like a genuine buyer, but im afraid some scammer is using a stolen account.

USPS money order should be fine. If you are unsure, go cash it at the post office before you send the item.

Wait for the USPS money order to come, take it to the bank, have them verify it and wait for it to clear if necessary. Send goods.

Cash the money order at the Post Office, not the the bank & have them verify if while you are standing there ... as long as they check before cashing it you should be fine.

Yes, you can cash it at the post office. Your bank should be able to verify whether or not it's authentic.

Yup, when I did more selling that was the only thing I;d take besides Paypal...well, except cash...but I didn't advertise and always told the buyer it was "At your own risk"

Money orders are pretty safe (for the seller anyway). Probably safer than paypal because the buyer can't do a charge back. Once you cash a money order the money is in your hand.

I see no problem. MO is actually more secure than PayPal, as once the buyer sends it, no matter how bad you fvck up, it'll be damn hard for them to get a dime back. Whereas with paypal, they could claim you were one peanut short on packaging, and get a 50% refund.

You can counterfeit any money order. Just use your common sense. Check for watermarks and security tags (holographic, embedded strips, microprint) before you try to cash it.

yea, personally, i'd be more weary if it was a western union m.o.

but it's not like it's a big deal if you don't ship it until you cash it.

Yep, USPS money order is safe. Since I won't upgrade my Paypal, that's what I'll accept if a buyer can't send non-CC Paypal funds.

Anyone trying to fraud with a USPS MO takes the chance of having the Feds knocking on their door.

Postal Inspectors get very nasty about such things.
