Should GRRM hire a ghost writer? Game of Thrones does'nt have a future otherwise

Martin started writing the first book 22 years ago in 1991 and it was'nt completed until 96. It's taken him thus far 17 years to write the 5 books that are currently in publication. Now that the TV series has been such a hit, it's only a matter of time before the TV show catches up with the books. What happens then? Will they suspend the show until he finishes writing? Somehow I doubt that, I'm willing to bet screenwriters will probably step in and write the story as they see fit or something along those lines.

I wonder if having a ghostwriter or someone to help Martin might be the way to get series finished. I've been trying to wait until he finishes the series before I jump onboard with buying any additional novels by him. It's getting frustrating to have to reread the entire series every few years just to keep up with the storyline. It's been fairly enjoyable rereading it, but all the same I'd prefer to finally get the whole story.

It's either hire a ghost or cancel the series. There is absolutely no way that the series won't pass Martin's writing. And they can't air material that hasn't been written. They're probably waiting on pushing the panic button because on TV anything is possible. The shows ratings could tank and it might get cancelled before they have to do something drastic. AFFC and ADWD were bad enough that it could happen.

He's already passed alone the key details of the story to HBO writers.

In case he dies. He is not going to let them air the endings of the series before the books are published if he is still alive working on the books.

Yeah we should be fearing and preparing for the time when he kicks the bucket.

GRRM has shown that he's now more interested in selling calendars and collectibles than in his story. I gave up after the abortion that was AFFC.

I feel those two books got a bad rap because they should have been one book. Perhaps a collected edition of some sort, where both books were merged together in chronological order. Hard to do with a printed book, but easy with a digital version.

I don't blame him for cashing in on all his hard work, but for pete's sake just finish the darn thing. It's like having sex with a beautiful woman that's continually interrupted by phone calls.

He should have hired a ghostwriter to write everything he has done.

Can't believe so many people like that tripe; except if they are only judging based on the TV series and not the books. I am a huge fantasy/sci-fi reader, and his books are like twenty writer's stories mashed together, with no particular storyline direction; most painful read I've ever come across.

Never heard it took him that long, but it makes sense after reading his books.

I'd just wrap it up and give it an ending.
Write an outline of how the story ends and put it in a letter to be opened when he dies, so that they can finish off the series.

He and Jourdan ruined me for long, multi-volume stories. In GofT I made it to the first of the two books that he said he split because he didn't have room/time. Gave up. In the WoT case I made it through eight books, then gave up. I think Martin will be dead long before he or anyone else manages to create a coherent ending to that mess.

He swore up and down that if he passed away then so did the story...until the HBO show came along, then everything changed.

If he keeps shooting for seven books then I think he'll finish it, but its gonna be messy and piss alot of people off. Theres just way to many characters and story arcs now.

I believe it's already been stated that they're going to diverge once the TV show overtakes the books. I'm actually OK with that scenario. It's kind of similar to the "alternate universe" or reboots that the the Japanese do with a lot of franchises. In this case all of the characters will have the same story in the beginning, but end up with different destinations in the end. I wish the Walking Dead would take a similar approach instead of just poorly aping the comic book story line.

Cue Brandon Sanderson.

The thing with GoT is that there really isn't going to be ending. I mean he will stop writing the story at some point, but there's no real end to it.

Cue Brandon Sanderson.

He wrapped up WoT better than Jordan could have imo. Jordan let the plot get away from him back at The Dragon Reborn. It was a Herculean effort by Sanderson to tie all those strings back together.
