Should gays be allowed to donate blood?

In 2001, a member of the advisory council for the NIH conducted a study that concluded that the lifetime ban on gay blood donation was not scientifically justified. The policy is outdated, and was founded during the initial HIV scare. It seems that the ARC is the sole antagonist in the fight for equal donation, ironically enough.

I think they need long term solutions such as better screening methods for blood donations rather than just denying certain people as donors...I assume they're working on it but I haven't heard anything about it (Course I didn't read every post here).

I can't give blood because I might have Mad Cow Disease...and all because I lived in Scotland for 2 years when I was 5.

Yes. I have a time machine and sleep with cucumbers on my eyes. Even back then.

I lived there for two years starting when I was around 5 (so 5 to 6 if you prefer). This makes me ineligible to give blood as anyone who has lived in England, Scotland etc for greater than 3 Months since 1980 is ineligible to give blood.
