It is so sneaky and underhanded and is theft and deception and forgery for all I am concerned..

We need to create some form of serious punishment for anyone found doing this.

Reminder
August 11th 2005
Yesterday, Bush effectively signed a cease-fire -- critics called it more like a surrender -- in his war on pork. He signed into law a $286 billion transportation measure that contains a record 6,371 pet projects inserted by members of Congress from both parties.

one person's pork barrel project is another's vital investment in their community.
Pork barrel projects are but a drop in the bucket (though a glaringly egregious example of government spending).
You have to look at entitlement programs and homeland security and defense for the large pieces of the spending pie.

Add to that interest on our national debt.

If they are so vital then we need to change the way the bills are written etc.. it just seems so slimy and creepy.. like that bridge in Alaska and special community centers/parks so some senator can have their name on it in their community etc. etc.

It truly feels like theft

You can (in theory) cut entitlement programs and defense/homeland security spending.
Interest on the national debt is a fixed cost. The US government cannot default on its loan obligations thus, paying interest on the national debt cannot be cut from the overall budget.

Considering most of our debt is attributed to the Republican party, I find your statement quite amusing.

It can be reduced by paying off the debt and running surpluses. But that can't happen until the rest of it is done.

*Puts on old English top hat* I find your statement quite smug. I dare say you've quite offended me. Quite quite quite.

That is one of the main reason I REALLY dislike George W. Bush and the Republican Congress. They are the ones who are fiscally reckless. We had a golden opportunity after Clinton left office to pay down the debt. Instead we got tax cut which went mostly to the wealthy and endless wars with ill-defined enemies. The vast majority of the costs to service this debt will come from my generation and the children and grandchildren of this generation. Shame on you George W. Bush.

Some communities get far less than they give .. and some Senators are better at stealing money from others to fund their own..

Once the debt was paid off, I would've screamed up and down at that point for huge tax cuts for everyone! But alas, I'll have to wait another 20-30 years for that now.
