Would they give us our athletes back, or would they wait for an apology from the US for winning the gold medal before handing them over?

Yes. The Olympics is an event for the world, it is not held for the US or some special country. The world has no grudge against China (except human rights violations). So Yes they should be allowed to host the olympics

Czar: It is more than just an event. It is a huge financial boost and spotlight. What part of China will we be allowed to see? All the smiles the government has forced their people to wear.

Will they detain anyone who drops a cigarette? Large groups of people and the Chinese gov't dont exactly have a great track record

Am I the only person who watched the Olympics from Sydney and saw the specials on how the chinese govt was giving classes on how to act for the citizens so they would have a better chance of getting to host the games. Do you really want to allow a country to host the games who has to tell its citizens how to interact with foreigners in a civilized manner???!!!

Perhaps, but this goes a little deeper than which fork to use with your salad I believe.

Zucchini you are right, but it goes against OUR principles to shove such brainwashing down people's throats.

Balt: Plz. Out government doesnt have to do it forcefully, they use other means by the press and social stigma. US pulls a lot of brainwashing and proproganda sh|t most US citizens never know of.

if china gets it, it'll be beijing right?
my friend went there earlier last year and she said they cleaned up the place BIG TIME. it's like one of the cleanest places in the world now. they put in humongous efforts to get the olympics and I don't think the airplane incident will affect their vote negatively either.

anyway, I still believe beijing still deserves to host the olympics... they actually put in the most effort into preparation and they use their resources efficiently. As for Toronto, compared to beijing, no way Toronto is getting the olympic vote... all Toronto has put into preparing for the olympics is building a subway that goes nowhere !?!... go figure. I haven't gotten any news on Paris but I expect Paris would have a better chance at Olympics than Toronto. :(
