Should be easy but no one seems to know. MSN

I cant shut msn messanger down. All though it isnt running in the task bar, when ever I am online my friends can see me.
Also when I do manually start it, then try to shut it down, it comes up with an error messages saying that it cant be shut down unless the program that is running that is associated with it, is shut down 1st.
That program I think is I.E.6. I have been through all the options in I.E. and in MSN's options but cant find any way I.E. and MSN are associated. Also had a look in Outlook Express and automatically start msn is not enabled.
Any suggestions.

Outlook Express uses it. Make sure Outlook Express is closed completely. I think you can also set it somewhere in Outlook Express so it doesn't load MSN messenger.
