Should a President talk more to the people?

I was wondering the other day, would the nation respect a president more if they ether did a weekly television/radio broadcast (say 5 minutes) and just simply said whats going on or what they're working on.. no planned out scripts or anything..

Instead of just feeding down papers through the cracks so the media can slant it anyway they so desire?

Sure a president's busy but just to simply take 5 minutes and talk directly to the 300 million people your leading can't be too much to ask.

Um... no...
Cause if they leak something that us Americans shouldn't know, he's screwed 🙂.
You don't need to know what they don't want you to know 🙂...

Well.. Im talking on a domestic basis.. healthcare, s.s., education.. stuff like that.. nothing that could be deemed as leakable information.. but for them to say, sure your fighting a war... but what are you doing to fight the war at home? i just hate being left in the dark..

are they doing nothing to help their own people? or is this even classified.. lmao

If half the people are going to hate you anyways because they are ignorant party-line toting tards then does it really matter? I mean, seriously I have a party affiliation but I disagree with them on many things and sometimes that means voting independent or the other side.

All that would happen is he would get railed by one side for not being prepared (even though he wouldn't supposed to be) and for being a doofus when he makes any mistakes while he would be praised by the other side for being a man of the people. But either way it wouldn't be productive becuase the left would be asses about their criticism and the right wouldn't criticize.

Who cares about what Bush has to say? He talks badly enough as he does already... I can't imagine how much he'd stuggle if he did it constantly.

That's what im saying.. your a fvcking president.. for crips sake.. i believe a president should, um.. not sound like elmer fudd..

you should tell the people whats going on, not ask.. and so what if they complain? they cant stop you.. let em bitch, not a perfect world.. but at least they'd be straight with the 300 or so million.. so its nessessary to hide everything from these people until after you sign it into law? BS

The president should have a daily fear and terror speech to keep the sheeple in a mindset willing to give up all their personal freedoms and to blindly be willing to do anything he says.

He can do all that, and explain how he will lower your taxes 🙂

I think with Mr. Bush.. lmao, he'd be in a world of hurt.. I think publicly displaying a president on national tv is a testimate wether or not people will take his BS...

Not sure it would do Bush any good, he's not exactly good at speaking. FDR (fireside chats as i believe they were called) was the only one to do something like this that I know of, maybe a future president could bring back the idea though.

Yes.. Fireside chats were the idea I was trying to think of. Show's he's a man of the people more than the guy that shoots first and asks questions later..

Yeah, as if the president is actually going to give us the real scoop. If you don't trust the media, why would you trust the source? The media is the only way you'll find a critical viewpoint of any presidency

I would think it's a good idea if it would keep the people more informed. But I don't think that more people would watch political news because of the president's "VIP bonus". On the other hand, there's a risk that these speeches could turn in 5 minute PR commercials.

But political leaders should hold speeches on current political issues, nothing wrong with that.

In an effort to get more money for government spending, every "fireside" speech would be riddled with ads. It would just be the president sitting there repeating various product slogans. Got milk?
