Should a cdrw be set to master or slave?

I want to put a cdrw and cdrom on a secondary IDE cable. What should be set to master and slave?

It doesnt really matter. Make sure your jumpers are correct and your set to go. For less confusion just set them both to Cable select and you can swap them anytime.

Some real smart kats have said your burner should be 'Master' and preferably on a different ide cable than your harddrive.

Not me! I'm not smart.

Most people and manufacturters will tell you secondary master. Where you then put your CD-ROM is more contentious.

dont put either of them on the same cable with the hard drive

that is just asking for slowness and problems



i always put the CD-RW as secondary master and any other kind of cd-rom drive or dvd drive as secondary slave

I have my DVD on the secondary master and my CDRW on the secondary slave. I don't have any issues at all with burning discs or burning while I'm listening to CDs or playing DVD movies.

I really don't think it matters where you put them, I just like to keep my rig tidy by separating the optical drives from the HDs.
