Should 1.4ns memory run at 700MHz??

I've got the 1.4ns memory in my X1800XL but on stock volts I can't get much passed 600MHz and even increasing the volts to 2.0 doesn't get me passed 660MHz.

I thought 1.4ns memory would be able to run at 700MHz at stock volts??

Or is it maybe the memory timings that are holding me back?

Technically, "1.4ns" RAM should be able to run at 1000 / 1.4 = ~715Mhz. But it depends on voltage and timings, and whether the memory controller in the GPU can take that kind of speed stably.

In other words: YMMV.

I guess....Kinda dissapointed since the core clocks really well. But I guess if the memory clocked really well too then it would have been sold as an XT instead of an XL.

The same thing happens on most ATI cards that I have seen. my X1900XT's memory is rated 1.1ns so it should be able to do 1800 with no problems but I belive ATI puts some tight latency's on these so it is difficult to get them there with out added voltage. The same thing happens with most of Nvidia's "GT" products. The performance is still there because of the tighter latency's in the end.

either way 660 and 700 isnt much differnce in performance so ur fine. but i know u want every possible bit. i feel ya there.
