Went out with my cousin from out of town today to the DFW Gun Range. (Mockingbird & 35 for you DFW peepz) Rented a Glock 17 to shoot - wow that's an impressive pistol. I'm a newb when it comes to handguns I'll admit, but the Glock felt really nice in my hand. Didn't weigh as much as I thought it would. I was a lil surprised as to how much plastic there was in the gun, but overall it felt solidly built. I can't aim worth a damn but it was fun just blowing the sh!t out of the paper target :) Got a few head shots in from a decent range as well.

Question for you more experienced peepz though - what's the best way to aim? Both eyes open or closed? How do you really judge where to aim at?

I prefer both eyes open to both eyes closed. ;) :p I actually do shoot with both open. I judge where to shoot by the sights on the gun, duder!

Depends on the distance from the target. Up close you should keep both eyes open, but focus on the front sight so that the target is slightly blurry. From a distance you'll want to close one eye and line up the sights.

The Glock 17 is almost physically identical to the Glock 22, which is what I'm issued by the PD. The difference is that the 17 is a 9mm and the 22 is a .40. When I get mine I'll snap some pics.

I own a G17, as it happens, and have been pleased with it over the last couple of years. I aim with one eye closed.

i really like the way glocks shoot... its a shame that they don't make for good concealed weapons though... for the most part they are simply too wide and / or too heavy for me to justify carring one... i wear t-shirts most of the time and keep my kel-tec p11 9mm concealed in waist-band w/ nearly no problems

Have you tried a Glock 36?
