The first mango I ever had was on deployment in the Mediterranean. I cant recall if we were in Greece or Italy, but one day HT2 Lake was walking by the mess decks with some strange item in his hand. I inquired about it, and he said it was a mango. I was not familiar with such an item and he said I was a choad monkey. Then he cut off a slice for me and I was about as happy as I've ever been, including that time I picked up a beach bunny in that one club.........

But I digress. Anyway, every mango I've since purchased from an American supermarket has been inferior to the extreme. No flavor or poor at best. Do not know why.
Where can I find acceptable mangos?

Don't you hate that? I found some good ripe (yellow) mangos from a street vendor. The supermarkets have those horrible red/green mangos, that aren't young and aren't ripe - just some mix of nasty. I haven't found young (green) mangos in the states yet.

Could have been a different variety or cultivar of mango. There are between 500 and 1000 named "mangoes" on the world market...

you gots to find a decent produce stand. depending on where you live, that might be difficult.

I live in CA, where everything is awesome--especially food, so....really spoiled out here.
