Well, look, I don't go into every thread and mention how Android is losing to iOS or anything regarding sales numbers of either platform.

In fact, I didn't even mention it in this thread until MotionMan mentioned it.

I could easily just have ignored this on-going pointless discussion of whether or not I have an agenda, but I have enough respect to both you and MotionMan to reply. Is it too much to ask of the same from you?

Jesus fing christ. Give it up. I did not "mention" it. I said NOT to bring it up, and no one did (until YOU did).

Just be honset that you have an agenda and you want to pepper every damn thread with it.

The sad thing is that I basically agree with you, but you are being such a jerk about it, I may change sides just to not agree with you.

DROP IT!

Well, it would seem we won't ever end it until I personally admit in written form of what you are accusing me of doing.

If it makes you feel that much better, then okay, I'll admit that I had an agenda and that in every single thread I've posted in up until this point, I was always hounding for a chance to post those statistics.

Can we please let this go?

What does bloat mean?

What does everyone mean when they refer to bloat?

MotionMan

When I refer to bloat I'm talking about excess software that I don't want. For example, when I install an operating system I don't want a bunch of random programs installed that I didn't choose to install myself. It doesn't matter how much space it takes up, it's extra stuff that I don't need or want. Or a more appropriate example for this forum, when you buy an Android phone and Verizon decides to add some of their crappy apps that you don't want and would never install.

Assuming you are telling the truth and you actually let it go, yes.

Alright, I'd like to apologize right now for every bad thing I've ever said about any person or any product on this web site.

That is what I understood.

I also believe that some people refer to software with too many "features" as bloatware.

Why?

MotionMan

Because this is the angriest pissing contest I've ever seen in the Phone section and I really didnt want it. I just wanted to share my iphone experience as it happened. As it turned out, things didnt go too well. Sharing my opinion on a forum full of angry nerds was (in retrospect) not a great idea.
My Playbook thread didnt turn to shit. Makes you wonder.

I'd give everyone free hot mouth to kill the hate here.

I did not read your Playbook thread. I assume it did not go the same way since the Playbook does not work as well as the iPhone, so your problems were expected.

However, in this thread, it appeared that the problem was with the user and not the device.

Most everyone who has posted recently needs to take a couple of deep breaths and relax. I'd have written something sooner, but I've been at Easter parties all day.

No. I'd rather not. I thought Shorty's review was unusual and unpopular, but I didn't think it was trolling. His comments came from a different perspective (Android user coming over to iPhone) People can criticize that his method of using the phone (no iTunes for example) was unorthodox, and people can question the issues that he's had. But just because he posted an iPhone review that was critical and people replied defensively does not make it a troll thread.

We shouldn't go down the road of labeling anyone who posts an opinion that differs from the majority view as trolling.

It's the way that people have responded to his comments (and some of Shorty's replies too) that have raised tempers - not the original comments.

I am urging everyone to relax and make thoughtful comments about the points that he's raised and the issues that he's had.

I'm as big an Apple whore as anyone, and I have to say, the iPhone isn't for me either.

I'm comfortable with android on phones and have run every version since 1.0, I can just get stuff done with Android easily.

When I use iTunes, I get a bit frustrated with it's simplicity, and to be honest iOS's simplicity in general.

I also dislike constantly jail breaking the different iOS's on the iOS platform, once I get an Android device rooted, that's pretty much it, no more headaches, custom roms by the awesome developers keep me very happy.

All that being said, I just picked up an iPod Touch 4th gen used so I can use it at work, the geniuses at work say we're supposed to keep our phones locked away, but said we can use iPods, so I just put Google Voice on it and I'm golden leeching off the hospital's Wifi, and if it's congested, I fire up my tethering on the ThunderBolt and leave it in my backpack, and tether to it. The iOS eTrade app is awesome.

Shorty, I applaud your giving the iP4 a shot, it appears you put out a valiant effort to make the platform work for you.

Fair enough.

Shorty, you bought a phone with a known walled garden. Instead of trying to work within the bounds of that, the first thing you did was scale the wall and play somewhere else. I don't understand how you expected different results than you received. IMO this invalidates your entire review. Anand does not recieve a Dell Latitude XT2 for review (multitouch tablet), install Linux over the original Windows, and then proceed to bitch about how the touch screen and pen do not work. I would like to see a review from you with a fresh mindset trying to play within "Apple's world" out of morbid curiosity. I think you'd be slightly surprised at how user friendly the phone is, despite its many well discussed shortcomings.

As far as iTunes, while you can leverage many complaints against it, in todays world, being a resource hog just doesn't fit. IE9 with one tab open and no flash is using over 100mb or ram, the Zune software can easily peak over 300mb, and Windows Media Player with a large library and images for the albums breaks 250mb before even playing anything.

I think G&G has a pretty good idea of what the advantages and disadvantages of the different OSs and phones are at this point. We know the iPhone user experience is going to be smooth if you play by the rules, we know the UI is more responsive than most Android experiences, but we also all know that it's locked down and trying to make major changes is at your own risk. Android on the other hand is immeasurably customizable and as a result has some pains such as a poor performing UI (comparatively) and often the user experience could be viewed as "worse" for the those who are not technology inclined. Pick which one fits you and be happy with it

In the long run due to the openness of Android and the large amount of manufacturers, Android will end up with a much larger percent of the market share than Apple will, it's a pretty simple fact and I'm sure Apple and everyone else involved knows this. Apple will enjoy a spot >10% in a market it helped to create (at least the modern smartphone market) and will make a large amount of money off of it, which is the goal for all the companies involved at the end of the day. And even if the marketshare were to dip farther, as long as Apple keeps the developers (and there is no indication they will lost them anytime soon) around the platform will remain healthy.

So you want things unnecessarily complicated? Or do you just not know how to use iTunes like the rest of them?

You basically picked up an iPhone 4 without the phone.

Sounds like you have other reasons for not using an iPhone, not very convincing ones.

Um, I know how to use iTunes, it's fine, I'm just not a fan of the interface.

As far as the reasons for not choosing an iPhone, I meant to post them, sorry...

AT&T- 0 bars in my workplace, due to shielding and building mass
-I choose to not do business with AT&T, they have provided me with horrible customer service over the years, a few years ago, they gave me credit for an entire year of DSL service because they had my line jacked up so badly. I vote with my $, and that means no At&T.

Verizon- the nature of CDMA and not being able to surf & talk (have this on Sprint and I really dislike it)
-no LTE radio, I tether, exclusively at home, it's faster by multiples than 3G

This is tethered to my phone over WiFi this morning.

We likely won't see an LTE capable iPhone till fall of 2012

Since you're using an Android phone, the Verizon negative is not any better or worse than Sprint.

It appears you value your phone more as a mobile tethering than anything else, in which case I can understand. Most people use this feature rarely, and it hardly matters whether you're getting 3G or 4G speeds (the latter being irrelevant anyway, since it doesn't exist in most areas).
