It's hard for iTunes because it is so prevalent for media. Does it need a redesign? Yes. Can they do it? Yes. Yeah, it's frustrating that they haven't done it yet. But think about this way.

iTunes is "bloatware" because it is doing so much. It's a repository for all of your music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, applications, and audiobooks. It also is a storefront for music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, applications, and audiobooks. You can complain about the resources that it takes up, but when you think about it. It's doing a lot.

It's doing a lot that I have no desire for it to do, which is why I'll never use it.

Realone Player tried being the exact same thing and it failed miserably because it didn't have the apple fanbase fawning over it.

It's the general notion. Up to the end of March, people were always singing about how iOS is beaten by Android by a large margin because iPhone didn't sell as well as Android smartphones. Well, that was fact. And if you'd read another thread I started, most people either assumed iOS meant just iPhone, or... you know, that the numbers didn't mean anything, but they quoted it anyway just to spite Apple users.

So yes, that was a "huh?" moment but it was true. Media spun the smartphone numbers out of control.

I see what you did there. We are talking about PHONES.

Keep that stuff in your other thread.

Most of his problems were about the OS and how it requires iTunes, not about the phone itself, though.

And I wouldn't have mentioned it if sales numbers weren't brought up.

So you don't use it, that doesn't mean that other people actually enjoy using it. I understand that you don't like it and rather have something else, but the facts of the matter are a majority of the people are using it. If Apple catered to the minority, then it wouldn't be a successful company.

Wow, this stuff is hilarious. People are trying to tell me I like iTunes because I am an Apple fan, when I've been using iTunes on PCs over every other piece of crap out there years before I even bought an Apple product.

What's next, we like Apple products because we are fans of fruit!

Better check your tools the next time you Phandroid decides to troll around iPhone threads. You're not well enough equipped.

Let me find an Android thread to troll around in. Oh wait, we generally have better things to do so you'll never find us wasting our time in one. ():)

You mean where I said DON'T talk about sales numbers?

MotionMan

Yep, there was that. But only for "Android sales numbers", and not specifically for iOS sales numbers, right? It was merely a coincidence Android was used as a metric, but it could just be any other platform out there.

Either way, I don't think any of that matters to this thread. I just brought it up because it was brought up.

Bloatware? what your PC can't handle it? It doesnt run smooth? ....or is it just too complex for you?

I haven't even owned an android device until about a month ago. Nice try though.

iTunes is terribly bloated, and if you want to use an iPhone in conjunction with your computer you need iTunes on your computer... Forcing me to use the 21st century version of realone player is not appreciated.

For computers, most of the best applications are free. When I want a music player. I just want a music player... If it's lightweight and a little adjustable while still easy to use, it's what I use (hence why I use Foobar/VLC). I look for the same kind of apps with my thunderbolt.

When I want a game, I'll look for a game. When I want an application, I specifically don't want something that's fashioned to look like a blockbuster game. I just want an application that does what it's supposed to, using as little resources as possible, and otherwise stays out of my way. I don't need a program to play every possible medium and manage my files while taking a ton of resources.

But you don't need to actually use the other features. I leave iTunes open and it is kind of bad with memory management... I've had it use over 600mb of RAM before.

No. Why don't you just be honest and say you brought it up because you have an agenda?

BTW, I do not disagree with your point, just you making an off-topic, trolling post in this thread.

Is it just me, or is the word "bloat" overused these days? EVERYTHING is considered "bloat" in one way or another, unless of course it uses 1mb of ram (out of 6-12gb!) and 500kb hdd space.

Yeah, most people use the term "bloatware" to describe anything they don't want or need, despite the fact that they are in the minority.

Well, see, I brought it up because it was mentioned. That was all.

It was off-topic, yes, I admit that. That was why I stopped.

There is no agenda or hidden intention here. I think you are reading too much into it.

Its all relative.
The Playbooks QNX kernel has about one hundred thousand lines of code as opposed to the average OS at 14 million. It only works slightly more efficiently in real world use, however.
Microsoft Office gets considerably larger with each version but in use it feels pretty much exactly the same, except when they moved to that ribbon bar.

You have to decide whats right for you. I got Win 7 on one system and XP on another. I dont think the cute little desktop visuals are worth it sucking up gobs of RAM and requiring a much faster CPU.

The iPhone 4 was super smooth but the other little issues made it seem not quite so wonderful to me. In the end I decided its better to have a phone thats really easy and powerful even with the occasional hiccup in the sliding of the home screen.

I'm not a huge fan of iTunes but bloat isn't one of the main issues I have with it. 180mb of memory is nothing anymore.

So far you've started two separate threads about it and now you're bringing it up in this thread. Yea, no agenda whatsoever...

I think you're just misunderstanding what bloat means, or what people are talking about when they refer to bloat.

Well, look, I don't go into every thread and mention how Android is losing to iOS or anything regarding sales numbers of either platform.

In fact, I didn't even mention it in this thread until MotionMan mentioned it.

I could easily just have ignored this on-going pointless discussion of whether or not I have an agenda, but I have enough respect to both you and MotionMan to reply. Is it too much to ask of the same from you?
