Short term investment

Hey all. Looking for info on the best short term (3-4 months) investment for about $70,000. 90 day cd or ??? No snide comments either about giving it to whomever!!! I will be talking to a financial advisor and looking over stuff at Merrill Lynch etc. but perhaps someone has another idea ????? Thanks!!!

stocks...

They are the only way you are going to make any sizeable profit in such a small amount of time. Even then, it ain't guarenteed.

what you should be asking yourself is how much of it you could stand losing then choose a investment vehicle which matches your risk/return tolerances.

For example, if you invest it in an index fund like spyders or diamonds, you could be up $5000 OR you could be down $5000...

Also, 3-4 months is a very short investing horizon, so i personally would not recommend equity...you don't want to be kicking yourself 4 months down the line because you got on the wrong side of a big short term move in the market.

So far no one has said anything that would actually make you decent money. The only thing I can think of is drugs. Namely Heroin or Crack. You will double your money in no time at all. Everything else is just too conservative.

I'm with Millennium on this one. You might try other markets as well--in my area meth is a pretty popular. You can set up a super nice lab with that kind of capital.

Then like the serious replies have said, a CD.

BTW if this is a 401K rollover you should not be doing this, since to keep it tax-sheltered you must never take control of the money yourself. For a rollover you should transfer it directly to vanguard, schwab, etc. (have the money wired or get a check made out to them not you).

If you wanted to make some serious money, you could go to a county auction and buy into a tax lein or two. Generally at least a 9-10% return on those, with zero risk. The time horizon for that would be a bit longer, though.

That, bonds, and CD's are generally going to be the only investments that give you anything worthwhile. Savings accts and money markets won't even beat inflation right now.

ooh... Munchies, are you familiar with the foreign exchange market?
my brother handles investments in that field.
pm me if you want to get in contact with him or have him contact you for more info.

take a look at a few mutual funds and look at its past performance and if it has ever lost money. the stock market can't go down much unless there is a large scale terrorist attack.

or if u want to play it safe, short ebay and u can't lose...
a p/e ratio of 100+ is unsustainable and many are finally realizing it

i second the tax liens idea... but in texas the return is 20% for 1 - 2 years.... other stats vary, but you could still purchase a texas lein if you live somewhere else right?

talked to my brother this weekend.
munchies, you need to get in contact with him.
FOREX owns all those other investment options.
