So during my visit to SF, me and my old friends decided to work on their cars while I was around. My friends have a relatively new interest in car repair and I'm passingly familiar with the same. My friend who shall only be referred to as MTL, was changing brake pads on his accord.
We had jacked up the car, removed the tire and undid the two caliper bolts holding the braking assembling together. But even after removing the two bolts, the caliper/piston assembly wouldn't budge. For 30 minutes we sat around poking at the brakes and it wouldn't come off. Stuck assembly means the brake pads aren't going anywhere.
Since we were changing the rear brakes, it suddenly came to me and I asked MTL, "hey is your parking brake still on?" For the uninitiated, the parking brake typically applies static pressure to the rear brakes. He's like, dunno, go check. Sure enough, the handle was still up. I released the parking brake and heard a "clunk." The piston/caliper assembly which for half an hour didn't budge, had completely fallen off, along with the brake pads.
The other side didn't even take us 15 minutes to do.
