I have phoneline networking, and my desktop doesn't have any delay when i open ie/mozilla/oe whatever, the internet is "instant" I have a broadband connection as well.

the desktop is 1.4tbird with 120gig wd se in raid 0.

I have my notebook getting internet from the desktop via crossover cable

when i log off or even when there's just been some inactivity or when I turn the computer on...it recognizes the 100MBit connection instantly, but when I open ie or oe or aim there's usually/always a 15-30 second delay before a webpage loads or i sign in...

the laptop is a 1.8 p4-m, full power using ac adapter, 5400rpm hardrive

both comps are running winxp pro. any ideas?

Does this happen, jsut the first time you open IE? each time IE is opened? Or jsut the first time IE is opened since the computer came on?

first time opening ie/oe after the computer has been logged off or just not used for a long time (several hours) and when just turning it on

usually when i turn it on is the most obvious case...i can understand there being some delay, but I don't understand how it can always be instantenous on my desktop, but my laptop which gets its internet through the desktop takes so long on the first opening of stuff to "get its connection going"

everything is at full power on the lappy :0

its just has to detect the settings from your computer. it doesnt seem liek its a big deal. just a few mintues right? you are just running a regular phone modem on the desktop?

or whats goign on there?

there might be better solutions to your needs. How do you connect to the internet? via phone modem, or dsl/cable modem?

my downstairs comp has dsl/cable, all other desktops in my house are connected by phoneline networking (10Mbit), my laptop is connected to one of the desktops by crossover cable 100Mbit.

yah i guess it's no big deal, I just didn't know if there was some registry key or setting that could "fix" it.
