I used the system that had the original Acorn RISC Machine CPU in school in the mid to late 80s, the Acorn Achimedes.

An ARM rep came to my school and gave a bit of a history lesson about the company (as well as the evolution of the ARM ISA). All and all a pretty interesting story.

The article is not very in depth. I think one thing missing that would interest a lot of people was why Apple was an early investor in what is now ARM. They needed a mobile CPU for their Newton which ultimately failed as a product but was a success in that it helped save Apple. Indeed, without selling off their holdings in ARM for $800 million, Apple would likely be dead today.
