I accidentally short-circuited my motherboard when installing a component. Is it likely that I have fried other components as well?

Edit: Seems the HDDs are gone at least... :(

um, installing a component when the computer is running?

more details please
It wasn't running obviously :) I forgot I'd lost a screw onto the mobo, doh! I figure if the HDDs are gone, other components are most likely a lost cause. The PSU should be safe though?

You'd have to test each component one by one. So what was the rig that you fried?

What do you mean by what was my rig? It was my desktop workstation? The motherboard is an EVGA X58 if it makes any difference.

Really, that's a shame :( Should I ditch it without trying it, in case it might fry new components?

exactly. Next time a storm comes, you could have to say hello to your beautiful PC. Absolutely not worth the risk.

Maybe you could reuse it in a VERY low cost pc that should stay unplugged when off.
