Actually I take that back, fuck Carmines. Go to restaurant row or walk over to 9th avenue and hang a right. 9th Ave btwn 44th and 50th has plenty of good restaurants. Some of the best sushi I've ever had was at the Marriott Marquison on Broadway and 45th.

Any advice on how to best use google local? Any way to limit search results based on ratings? Tips/Tricks to using it?

I usually have a type of cuisine in mind, so I'll just center the map on the neighborhood I'm looking at and just type in something like "mexican food nyc" and look at what comes up on the map.

like any rating site, I try to balance out the number of stars and the number of ratings (re: I'd be more likely to go to a place with 200 4-star ratings than a place with 2 5-star ratings)

I don't know exactly how it works, but google local seems to average out the reviews from the various review sites around the net (zagat, yelp, citysearch, etc) and combine it with the always-awesome google maps.

I always like going to B&H and Adorama to look at used cameras when I'm in NYC. B&H's store is awesome, but Adorama usually has better prices.

FAO Schwartz is an interesting toy store, if you want do to the whole tourist thing.

You should also go to Peter Luger, and see what all of the ATOT Steak Fanatics are always raving about.

I stopped using Zagat ratings when they sold out and started reviewing fast food places. Now you need to read the New York Times reviews to know what the really good restaurants are.

Updated OP with restaurant ideas.

Right now, I am leaning towards:
Tony's DiNapolio - 147 West 43rd - Italian food (Times Square)
A bit pricey but it looks like a nice place with a good menu for my wife.

Any thoughts? Price does not bother me here. it's within my budget. Is the food and service good. That is what i am concerned with.
