Shopping For A New Card, Need Suggestions Please...

I haven't purchased a video card in years. My current card is an ELSA Gladiac GeForce 2 GTS. The only thing I have ever really taxed it with is games. I want to start doing some video editing though, and I am going to try and get into a PhotoShop class as well. I still plan to play plenty of games, though. :D Whatever card I get I will be using on the Athlon 64 system I am going to upgrade to.

I am looking to spend $300.00 to $500.00 maximum, but have been out of the market for so long I have no idea what is what anymore. Any recommendations?

Nvidia Geforce 6800gt.

Just make sure if you get an AGP card you get an agp mobo, and if you get a pcie card you get a pcie mobo.

IMO:

$200: 6600GT (AGP/PCIe).
$300: X800XL (PCIe [ETA a few weeks for that price]).
$400: 6800GT (AGP/PCIe).

I'd lean toward the latter two if you're a heavy gamer.

My 6600GT performs well in my rig. Best $225 I've ever spent on a video card.

Got a 3dMark05 score of 3049. Plays HL2 and Doom3 really well.

Microcenter may still have the deal where you can get a 6800GT for $319. With modded drivers, and a very modest overclock (380/1.05) I got 5094 in 3dmark05.
