I'm currently running an MSI neo2 platinum and am looking for something in pcie. I've been looking around quite a bit the last few weeks and can't really decide. The board I'm most interested in right now is the Abit KN8 SLI. Seems to have everything I need plus SLI (which I don't care about) and I really like the passive NB cooling. And the price is amazing! My CPU is a 146 Opty@2.8, I imagine I'll get a dual core chip later this year, so what I really want to know is how good of an overclocker is this board? Stability? Any problems with running dual core on it? If there aren't any major negatives with this board, I will get it.

I've also looked at higher end boards.... well at least more expensive ones... ;) but I'd like to keep the cost down as much as possible, as long as I can do it without sacrificing quality. The thing I've noticed about the more expensive boards is that they usually offer a bunch of features that (a) aren't needed and (b) are buggy and don't work anyway.

My main requirements are:

pcie (naturally)
good overclocker
stable, no/few issues
works well with dual core
passive chipset cooling a BIG +++
price

People have eschewed Abit somewhat lately, due to their financial issues.

But now that they've merged with whatever company it was, i'd say they're a safe buy.

The one you're looking at does seem to be the best value mobo that fits your requirements

Thanks n7, I guess I'm looking for someone to give me a reason not to buy it, but I can't seem to find any reason not to... :)

I've seen the press over Abit's financial woes, and of the recent merger but it never swayed my decision process. Guess I'll give 'er a shot then!
