We've been looking for our first home for about over a week now. Thus far, we've seen 4 houses and only one has actually look decent. Someone swept the 5th house from underneath our feet with an offer the same day. The one we've seen today is quite small, but the current owner has put a lot of money into it. We offered them $4,000 less than what they're asking for and I wasn't sure if I should've done that. Everyone is telling me you never buy a house for the asking price. The seller knows they will never get what they're asking for, so they know to raise the asking price a little. We'll find out Monday if the offer gets accepted!!!!

Good luck. I'll be going through that in the near future... not looking forward to it. Not many houses in our price range in this area.

Yea our range is $80k - $100k

All I want is a garage or driveway! I'm tired of coming home looking for a parking space. I can't even wash my car when I want to. The house has been listed for 10 days so let's hope so. The only good thing about it is, it's a 2 bedroom so people with kids will be relunctant to look at it.

Someone lied to you.
We just got $5,000 over our asking price. But, we made an offer of $19,000 less than the asking price of the house we are buying. They countered with $9,000 above that. So, we got it for $10,000 less than the asking price.

Ok I neglected to say that yes it's still possible for people to overbid. I know when I was selling my investment property I set it for a higher price knowing the buyer would bid down. I was still happy as I still got what I wanted, but I just made sure I gave myself breathing room.

My question is, if you give an offer, how do you justify (if you did have to give a reasoning)? Or is it common sense that you never pay what the asking price is. There's a house across the street on a different street where they're asking $135,000!!!

No. I moved your mom into a new trailer to be closer to me.
