My first thought was that it was not in the US, because many stores in the US won't even chase a shoplifter.

A few of those looked like they were at HD's, which tell their employees very specifically to NOT physically confront shoplifters. You follow them, ask them to stop, if they run you do not chase them. LPI officers might be different, there's a lot of ex-cops and whatnot in the company doing those jobs, and I know that they'll chase and detain people if they get the chance to.

You cannot legally detain someone you suspect of shoplifting...that's called kidnapping. All you can do is call the cops and have them arrested. Of course if you have someone arrested who didn't actually shoplift, you open yourself up to a lawsuit.

How can you be arrested for shoplifting if you are still in the store? 😕

yeah they just came up and grabed him by the neck. if someone did that to me i would be fighting also.

I have no idea what was going on in those videos. At face value though, they did everything completely backwards. You can't get someone for shoplifting if they're still in the store, and that one guy was just standing there talking on the phone.

This is all aside from the fact that it seems completely unnecessary to assault these people from behind when a simple "can we go into the office and talk" would likely suffice.

I think it was a setup or something. It's like you were anticipating the black guy at the next counter getting some. And then BAM the white guy on the phone gets cuffed.

I agree. I bet they would get far less fights that way. (maybe they were looking for one?) You can bet that guy would have got a fight if some of that sh!t was pulled on me...

Yes, you can detain someone, and it is not kidnapping. Kidnapping would be unlawful, this is not unlawful. Don't believe me? Try it sometime.

Oh yes you can, I know firsthand, I was with a fiend years ago at a department store that tried to steal something, and they detained us. Also they tackled him but just grabed my arm and asked me to follow them. Luckly I wasn't charged with anything.

I'm sorry, but those shoplifters were more or less assaulted by the police/employees. When you approach and tackle/jump in front of/grab a person from behind, they WILL resist. I would love to see someone kick these guys asses.
