Shooter Reported at Fort Lee Army Base in Virginia

FORT LEE, Va. (AP) — An active shooter has been reported at the Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia.

Officials say the base has been put on lockdown and personnel there have been told to enact active shooter protocols.

The four-story building involved is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command.

No other details were immediately available.

The base is about 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, and about 130 miles from Washington.

Maybe we should be having an Army Fort debate instead... those places seem to be a magnet for suicidal gun toting nutjobs.

I did a short stint at Ft Lee.

The Army calls it "For Leisure". I got the impression there isn't much regular units there, at least I never saw any. Seems the base is mostly MOS training, so compared to your average base, Ft Lee residents are younger and dumber.

IIRC, Army Quartermaster School makes up the majority of the base. Both Marines and Airmen attend these schools as well.

Oh and the other thing to note is, and maybe this changed since 2002, but there is little to no security at Ft Lee. Forgot your ID? oh well just go ahead. Oh you're a pizza delivery guy from a place we never heard of? Oh, better hurry some soldier probably wants it while it's still hot. Oh you're some slut LCpl Train has been railing? No ID neccessary.

The shooter is a woman and in custody. Not usually a woman doing these. Equal opportunity shooting, I guess. An official described her as "disgruntled." Can't get much more disgruntled than that.

A female soldier with a gun inside a key building turned the weapon on herself, causing an injury, but didn't wound any others as a heavily trafficked Virginia Army base temporarily went on lockdown Monday morning.

Early reports indicate that the soldier fired one shot inside a four-story building that is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command, according to a military news release.

To call this an "active shooter" is total bullshit from the anti-gun press.

You know the press doesn't give a shit about banning guns, right? They just want to sensationalize anything they can to get more viewers.

Yeah, I wouldn't take your "knowledge" of base security from well over a decade ago as useful information. When I transferred in 2001 I found several installations that tried to save money in the clinton era drawdowns by reducing the civilian guard staff and having "unmanned" entrances where you would proceed unless the sole remaining person came out and asked you to stop. A year later armored vehicles were parked as additional driving obstacles at those same entrances and each entry line had at least one person checking each vehicle.

You would be surprised at how many of the press are antigun and feed on bodycounts to stir up fear turning into kneejerk laws that are ineffectual. They are not going to report uses of concealed carry or home defense that same way because sometimes there isnt even a shot fired or police report.

LCpl. Train, apparently that woman you've been railing has come back to haunt you.

Body counts are used to push gun laws, they just happen to have the side effect of increasing viewership. Makes sense.
