i got a new pair of sneakers about a month ago. the shoelaces always come untied by themselves. they don't get caught on anything, they just wok their way loose throughout the day, no matter how tight i ties them.

how do i fix this other than double knotting them?

Why do you want something other than a double knot? Seems like that is the easiest solution.

because when i double knot. i tend to make things worse when i take them off, like causing a big knot that takes 10 minutes to get undone

get different laces
some are "slicker" than others...
not to mention just being "new" they need to get roughed up and cinch better on themselves.

what do you have against double knots?

Aglet. It's called an aglet. The thing at the end of a shoelace that keeps it from coming apart -- yep, some people do know what they're called.

I do the double knot thing to keep the laces from dragging on the floor. But I prefer shoes with no laces anyway, like flips flops. 😛

When you go to make the loop go thorugh twice insted of once. It will come apart if you pull on the strings like a normal knot but will never untie itself. I haven't had to retie my sneakers since I got them.

Woah, cool. thanks! :beer::thumbsup:

Make the shoe wider by releasing the tension in the shoelaces. Do it until there is about 1-1.5 inches of shoelace left, and then you're all good. Now you can just slip them on whenever you want, and you don't have to worry about knots.

As several people have mentioned, the shoelaces are just new and need some breaking in. Roughening them up with sandpaper or wetting them before tying sound like good ideas.
