Shockwave constantly crashing help

Every day at some point my computer becomes unresponsive for about 5 minutes then I get a warning that shockwave has crashed, this has been happening for months.

Any way to fix this?

Windows 8 machine

Chrome. Why is it that it completely makes my computer unresponsive when this happens? Once the crash warning comes up, everything is responsive again.

Your machine may have other errors causing shockwave to crash. It happens on occasion here, and I run "Tune Up 1 Click Maintenance" to check/fix errors (other similar programs work too).. no problem afterwards.

I do regular hd maintenance and clean out my cache and cookies and history regularly.

I got a message that shockwave needed updating a few days ago and installed the update so waiting to see if it happens again.

Yesterday the same thing happened, I had about 10 pages open and the computer starting becoming extremely slow, like you would right click and it wouldn't open for like 15 seconds, or when I closed a page, it didn't close for 5-10 seconds, then I would click another page and it would be blank until about 5 seconds then it would appear. So I thought shockwave was in the process of crashing but I never got any crash warning. Wierder.

still happening. I'm thinking it's about time for a fresh load of Windows 8. I don't know what else to do.

Every once and awhile when I run Chrome it crashes my computer for a couple seconds, and some times I have to do a full restart.

It's probably the fact they tamper with your personal information or a bug, either way just wait until Chrome makes an update and run CCleaner to clear your cache, history and cookies.

Thanks. Yeah I check task manager, it takes like 10 tries just to get it to open when this is happening, but it always says almost 100% of my memory is being used, which makes sense why everything is so slow to respond, I have to end up restarting the computer.

So just happened again, except this time I never got a shockwave crash warning. All my pages open just went blank and the computer became unresponsive.

I had to do a hard shut down, and then it took the computer like 3 min to shut down. Then when I restarted it it took about 3 min to boot, and then was extremely slow for the first 5 min.

Annoying as hell, I should have built a AMD system.

Hardware and temps are fine.

4670K + Zalman CNPS10X
MSI-Z87 Gaming
8GB DDR3
HD5850
1x WD 1TB Black
1x WD 500GB Blue
Antec 300
Antec 620w
Cpu temp after 2 hours of BF3 are 56c or less, GPU is the same.

It's not hardware. It IS Chrome causing your issue.. Look at CPU usage, it's usually 100% during those freezes.
You can disable shockwave plug-in tho.. Advanced settings/ Privacy/Content, scroll to plug-ins, uncheck Run automatically (recommended), check Click to play

Why would anybody still use Chrome nowadays? Just get rid of it. Even IE is better by leaps and bounds.

Thanks, I'll be sure not to take any of your advice in the future, considering as of August 2014, 46% of users use Chrome, the next closest is Firefox with 17.5%. Who are those dumb people? LOL

No, cpu usage is around 2% when this happens, however it says 100% of my memory is in use, and I can't find anything in the list that is usign a huge amount, it's like something hidden is using it.

So you are calling me dumb?
I use IE11 and very rarely Waterfox. Maybe I'm dumb but I do not experience the crashes you are having.

In any case you should use a different browser for a while to check if it's Chrome that's causing the crashes. If so, you should wait for a update that MIGHT fix your problem.

That would be a problem, whether or not it is causing the shockwave issue. Even Windows caching frequent programs wouldn't take memory usage to the top, so it sounds like something is bogging you down.

In task manager, make sure you are using the 'show programs from all users' button to get a good idea of where the memory is going.

Out of curiosity, what AV are you running?

Next time this happens, close all chrome windows and then open task manager and tell us if there are any chrome, adobe, flash, or shockwave processes still running.

UPDATE: I reinstalled Windows 8 and I'm running Firefox now. Same issues, it's shockwave crashing my system, not chrome.

I was running Kaspersky Internet Security, but now I'm running AVAST free. Had the same problem with both.

What does your video configuration look like? Are you using the Intel graphics or just your 5850?

If you are using both, try one at a time. If you are using one, try the other. Try different AMD drivers.
