I'm a huge fan of blue moon, but ever since I found shocktop I really don't even buy blue moon anymore. The tastes are very similar but I shocktop is a lot smoother and has a better flavor, which is suprising for a beer from Michelob. Anyone else have opinions about this beer?

If you're a fan of the belgian white style, try Hoegaarden and Mothership Wit from New Belgium. Haven't had Shocktop yet, but I've seen it around. BM is decent, I'll have to give that a try.

I like Hoegaarden a lot, haven't tried Mothership Wit, I'll look for it. I can't drink a lot of Hoegaarden but I can run through a 6 pack of Shocktop in an hour it tastes so good

Have you tried the Full Moon seasonal stuff yet?
I like it much better than regular Blue Moon.

+1 to Shocktop. Its great. Although my personal taste is geared more towards Widmer which is not as fruity and also a great wheat bear.

Had this when I was in Colorado last year for work not bad. I don't miss not being able to get it as much as I miss Fat Tire.

Full Moon is really good, I like it better than Harvest Moon. Pale Moon isn't bad for an IPA, either.

Right now I'm enjoying a Tommyknocker Cocoa Porter. Very tasty.

It's hard to find shocktop in NYC, this bar I used to frequent served a lot of good domestic and german/belgian beer, but they closed down. I thought shocktop was belgian because the thought of an American company making such a good beer was just too much for me to handle!! Hoegarten is a good replacement for Shocktop, but it sounds like i should keep my eyes peeled for Full Moon and Mothership Wit.

Any german hefe weißen is also good, i like Paulaner, but there are other brands.

so it's surprising that budweiser makes a better beer than coors? i thought this was common knowledge.

It's got nothing to do with the Belgians. :p Shock Top is brewed by Anheuser-Busch.

And yes, I like it too OP. I just bought some Shock Top a few days ago for the first time as a matter of fact.

so this is from michelob? what would that have to do with belgian beer?

I think you just offended all beer lovers everywhere :p

also, belgian beer is extremely popular. blame your particular state for their BS alcohol laws if you have trouble finding real Belgian beers. most of them hover around 8-10%

It's from Anheuser- Busch. And its only 5.9%. The problem I've run into is I can get it on tap but can't find it in stores around here because it's not popular enough for the stores to sell or market. Even the case I had the local liquor store buy for me lasted until I bought three out of the four 6 packs in 8 days! :p

Blue Moon sucks period. Mass produced swill = fail. Hoegaarden is in all ways superior as far as Belgian whites go.

I never understood the fascination of a macro-brewed fake beer with a blue moon label slapped on it and dubbed "premium." really bland as far as the style goes.

...and what makes you think Hoegaarden isn't mass-produced? You'd be hard-pressed to find a handful of bars in western Europe that don't serve it, and it's spreading all over the states as well.

Belgian mass production more than likely > Anheiser Busch mass production. That would be my guess anyway. I'm not a big Belgian White guy to be honest. More into the darker stuff myself. But if I had to choose a Belgian White, it'd be Hoegaarden, or some other variation. Definitely not Blue Moon.

I really don't like Belgian Whites and haven't tried this, but I will say that Blue Moon is a horrible representation of the style.
