Earlier today i was removing a dvd from computer and i shocked the computer when i touched it, speakers crackled then computer locked up and had to hard reboot.

Now when i turn on computer it will lock randomly after a few minutes doing various things.

I opened up case and reseated everything, tried booting without soundcard but still locked up after a few minutes. Tried an old video card, same result. Tried memory 1 stick at a time, same result.

Not sure what else i can do. Is it possible i did something to MB when i shocked computer?

That static discharge could have got anything.
The first thing I would try is a different power supply.

Thought of that after my initial post. Still had a lockup, then locked up at post. Put back in original PS and booted up then locked up in windows.

It's sounding more "motherboard" all the time.
Do you have any extra memory that you could test in the system?

Make sure you touch metal on each PC before you touch any internal components.

Well, computer ran stable for about 40 minutes before locking up. Would not post at all when i rebooted.

I believe i have checked all possible problems other than new mb/cpu.

Any other suggestion?

More than likely it's your MB.
But just in case, I would disconnect anything from the MB that's not essential for function.
Strip it down...
Disconnect everything but a HD, 1 stick of known good memory and something to output video.

Disconnect everything but a HD, 1 stick of known good memory and something to output video.

Tried that and same result, lock up after a few minutes. I also tried an old pci video card with same result. Tried my memory stick by stick, another computer memory sticks, all had same result with lockup after a few minutes.

I even put my video card, memory in another computer and all are stable for about 45 minutes now so i am thinking its defenitely something with my MB.

Thanks for help Blain.:)

It does sound like a mobo problem at this point..but..why didn't your ground [ in wall socket ] shunt the spike to ground, if you just touched the case ? You may have an open in your grounding circuitry. On second thought, if you touched the mobo or a lead going to the mobo then that was the cause of your malfunction if you were charged up with static electricity. I constantly short myself to my computer case whenever I return to my computer..or before I work on it. Winter time in my house is static electricity time, and maybe at your home as well. I hope you get your sys up and running without too much of a hit on your wallet.
