Shocking! Microsoft Anti-Semitic?

Do the following:

1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Type in all caps: NYC
3. Make the font size 48
4. Change the font to webdings and read what it says
5. Then change the font again, this time to "Wingdings" - now it's scary.

I just did this and am shocked! For those of you who dont have access to Word, changing NYC if font size 48 to webdings makes it say "I love new york", but if you change it then to wingdings, it says "Death to Jews Is good".

I've done it. I've Seen it, pass it on! Microsoft has to be held accountable.

Hey,

I hadn't, and neither had anyone around this office. I am still in shock that Microsoft would do something like that.

Stop being such pricks!

BTW, I didn't know about that, but I don't think I'm going to try it out either. That's pretty messed up if it's actually there. Why would it BE there in the first place? A bug? Yeah, I'm sure.

Oh my god! Have you tried the same by typing "WTC"? What does it mean? NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Some people play the "anti-semitic" card really easily, but this is going a bit too far!

And besides, this is OLD news!

With any character set you can get it to say whatever you want when changing between two different character sets. This is SOO RETARDED.

Windogg,

I go back to CP/M and beyond. I just can't believe that if has been around for that long... that they havent removed it.

Not only is it offensive, but it is insensitive.

And I will try Yemen... perhaps the problem stems from an angry H1B in Microsofts history.

This whole Wingdings episode is like calling Ms. Cleo. If you really want to believe in something you will twist reality to make it fit. I am sure there are thousands of other combinations that create "hidden" messages. Remember all the nonsense about Nostradomus (created by college student) and the silly numbers game with 9/11? These conspiricy theories are plain dumb.

Isn't 9/11 when the PS2 came out? Maybe there is a link there...maybe it's Sony trying to kill everyone...

Or maybe that was the date the DreamCast was released. Maybe it's Sega?

Who knows, man? I'm off to Word to figure this one out...I know it's in the webdings, or the wingdings, or some other stupid font.

Bill Gates dies and is up at the pearly gates.
St Peter: Well, you've got a choice. Have a look around here.
Pop down to Hell and see what Satan has to offer. Check us
out, and then let me know your decision.
Bill has a look around heaven. Lots's of somber people singing
hymns, praising the Lord .
He goes down to Hell. There are beautiful beaches, lots of sun,
sand, attractive women . Long cool drinks that never get you
drunk. He loves it. He goes back to St Peter.
Gates: Look, I know you're really doing good things here, but
Hell seems more with it. More my kind of scene, you know what
I mean? No hard feelings, but I pick Hell.
St Peter: No worries. You've got it.
Bill finds himself back in Hell, neck deep in fire and brimstone,
suffering eternal torment. He can't figure it out.
Gates: Hey! St Peter! Where are the beautiful girls and long
beaches and cool drinks?
St Peter: Sorry if you got confused, That was just the beta
version

MS used to have a lot of little nasty easter eggs like this in older versions of office.

If you think the jewish one is bad, you should see some of the Anti-Black messages you could get from the thesaurus in Office 95.

MS Fired everyone involved, and now have a code review system in place that prevents anything like this from making it to store shelves.

What kind of message? Did you know that in some versions of Word (not in my 2K version) if you write "unable to get a date" and checked it using thesaurus, it would suggest "unable to get an erection" :D

And if you change the font back to Algerian, it says NYC again... so MS must think the algerians are going to rebuild New York!!!

Boycott MS :p
