Shirt Question

I'm buying a shirt (a "polo" style t-shirt from Express Men's) for my uncle.

He's about 5'9-5'10" (probably closer to 5'9"). He weighs around 190. Should I get him a Large or an Extra Large?

I would say the same, because he might take XL as an insult a little bit. Too big = kid thinks i am a fat@ss, too small = kid doesn't know my size.

I'm 6'3", 170lbs and my Express polo is a medium. So definitely no bigger than a large, maybe even a medium depending on how he's built.
