I went to the post office today to ship out a video game software to someone and told them that I wanted it shipped via media mail. I shipped out dozens of things thru media (all valid) but for some reason today the lady started questioning me. She asked me what specifically am I shipping out so I told her software. She asked what kind of software and I told her it was a video game.
She then told me that it's not legal to ship video games with media mail, but I told her it was for a PC not for a video game console so it stil is software. She then turned to the other worker and they both agreed that I couldn't send video game software via media mail. The also said I could only ship out CD's, tapes, but not video game software. Only educational software. Anyways...sorry for the long story.

What do you guys think? Is it not legal to send video game software via media mail? USPS.com specifically says:

Media Mail
Generally used for books (at least eight pages), film, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media. Advertising restrictions apply. There are presorted rates available for bulk quantities of Media Mail (minimum quantity is 300 pieces). There is also a barcoded discount available for Media Mail.

Print out the description from the website and throw it in their face next time they disagree. If they don't take it, quietly go to the next nearest post office in your town. I would also try to contact their supervisor or someone up the food chain for better results.

If it was a blank cdr then it may be worthy of debating about, just like you can't send unprinted stacks of paper via media mail. But obviously, they were just trying to take your frustrations out on you. I would complain to the regional postmaster about this -- they'll get a lot of heat from it.

It shoulda been media mail no problem. Besides Microsoft sent me a replacement mouse via media mail, beats me how they got away with it.

Heh heh..I actually went back there right after posting this and brought a copy of the usps.com guidelines and showed it to them. Got back the difference. For some reason that lady wanted to give me a hard time....guess she was having a bad day.

I get asked about the contents when I ship Media Mail too (even when it's in a CD or DVD mailer). I think it's because some people abuse it (like some eBay sellers who charge $10 to ship a small non-media item through Media Mail).
