from ny to toronto for around a 12 by 12 inch box and about 4-6lbs weight what would be the cheapest shipping method...i have never shipped to canada

USPS Airmail.

It's what I always ask for, buying from the US. Fast and cheap.

 
If your package weighs 4.0 lbs or less you can send it by letter air post classification, very cheap, in fact cheaper than priority mail! But otherwise, it has to go parcel post air.
